She works closely with the District’s child study teams and special education staff to ensure the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of the IEP process and will manage, along with the director of elementary special education and the director of secondary special education, the work of the school nurses, speech language specialists and homebound services. Additionally, she supervises the implementation of policies and procedures enacted to fully inform parents of the rights, duties, obligations and implications of referral, re-evaluation and placements and mediate disagreements in all areas impacting on the educational success of special needs students. Miller is responsible for the District's compliance in all areas relating to special education and student services, including federal, state and district regulations, as well as curriculum and program development and implementation. She is responsible for the daily operational management of the District’s student services and special education departments. Annette Miller assumed the post of Assistant Superintendent for Student and Special Education Services July 1, 2014, following a seven-year stint as principal of Birches Elementary School.
